Mary Copple:

1971-1973 Training in dance and drama at Dartington College of Arts, England, Diploma 1973. 1994-2002 Masters study at the Freien Universität Berlin in French (linguistics major) and Information Science, Magister Artium 2002. Magistral thesis: The Role of Gesture in Theories of the Origin of Language. Pre-university work experience: dancer, choreographer and dance teacher followed by many years in the computer industry. Post graduation: freelance translator specialized in the humanities, especially in the fields of gesture research, language philosophy and museum studies. May 2006-October 2008 coordinator of the research project Towards a grammar of gesture: evolution, brain, and linguistic structures at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt/Oder. Since October 2008 research assistant in the project Sprache und Gestik der Alexithymie within the framework of the Cluster of Excellence Languages of Emotion at the Free University Berlin.
